What is a cookie?

A Cookie is a small piece of data stored by a web browser on the user’s device (e.g. computer, smartphone, or tablet) at the request of a website visited by the user. Cookies are used to remember user preferences, track browsing behavior, and provide personalized experiences or targeted advertising on websites. Cookies contain information such as session identifiers, authentication tokens, user settings, or browsing history, which are transmitted back to the website server each time the user visits the website. While cookies serve various useful purposes, they can also raise privacy concerns and be exploited for tracking or profiling users without their consent.
