What is a port?

In computer networking, a Port is a virtual communication endpoint or interface that allows different applications, services, or processes running on a computer or networked device to communicate and exchange data with each other over a network. Ports are identified by numerical values (port numbers) ranging from 0 to 65535 and are associated with specific protocols, such as TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) or UDP (User Datagram Protocol). Ports are used to multiplex multiple network connections on the same IP address, enabling networked devices to support simultaneous communication with multiple applications or services running on different ports.
