What is a VPN tunnel?

A VPN Tunnel is a secure, encrypted connection established between a user’s device (client) and a remote server (VPN server) over a public or untrusted network, such as the internet, to create a private communication channel or virtual network. VPN tunnels encapsulate and encrypt data traffic using protocols such as IPSec (Internet Protocol Security), SSL/TLS (Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security), or OpenVPN, protecting it from interception, surveillance, or tampering by unauthorized parties. VPN tunnels provide confidentiality, integrity, and privacy for online activities, such as web browsing, file sharing, and remote access to corporate networks, by creating a secure tunnel through which data can travel securely.
