What is a proxy server?

A Proxy Server is an intermediary server that acts as a gateway or intermediary between a client device (e.g. web browser) and a destination server (e.g. website server) to facilitate communication, improve performance, enhance privacy, or bypass network restrictions. Proxy servers intercept, forward, and cache requests and responses between clients and servers, allowing clients to access content or services indirectly through the proxy server’s IP address. Proxy servers can serve various purposes, including web filtering, content caching, load balancing, anonymizing web traffic, circumventing geo-blocks, and enhancing security by filtering malicious traffic or masking the client’s IP address.
